The People Who Populate the John Keegan Series
The Main Players
🕵️ John Keegan
NYPD homicide detective, reluctant public figure, haunted philosopher in a trench coat.
He’s been a detective, a deputy inspector, and briefly a TV personality (because apparently solving high-profile murders isn’t exhausting enough). Cynical, sharp-witted, and deeply introspective, Keegan navigates crime scenes like a poet lost in a battlefield—equal parts analysis and existential dread. Haunted by his past, dogged in his pursuit of justice, and incapable of shutting up when he should.
đź‘© Pauline McCrory-Keegan
Undercover officer, wife, mother, and equal in every way to John Keegan.
Pauline doesn’t just keep up—she sets the pace. Intelligent, fearless, and emotionally complex, she balances motherhood with fieldwork and takes down criminals in heels. Her relationship with Keegan is layered, often tested, but unmistakably rooted in mutual respect (and the occasional sarcasm-laced verbal sparring match).
đź‘® Rick Calhill
John’s former partner. Still haunts everything.
Their bond was complicated—part brotherhood, part slow-motion collapse. Calhill' looms large, both literally and emotionally, through Keegan’s psyche and living space. Keegan adopted his kids. Lives in his apartment. Carries his shadow everywhere. You don’t forget a partner like that.
🧠Jacob
Cyber-forensics savant. Former NYPD tech guy. Now unofficial digital ghostbuster.
Jacob's basically what would happen if your IT guy had a grudge, a conscience, and a love for breaking into digital vaults "just for old time’s sake." He helped Keegan and still does, begrudgingly, because their loyalty runs deeper than the NYPD's bureaucratic memory.
🔥 Detective Karl Lavin
Vice division lifer. Devoted to taking down pedophiles and scumbags with unmatched fury.
Everyone calls him an imbecile. That’s because he refused to leave Vice, where good cops go to burn out. But Lavin has a moral code carved in stone, and when he partners with Keegan, it’s like watching fire team up with sarcasm.
🧢 Captain Geiger
Commanding officer. Knows when to yell, when to delegate, and when to silently suffer Keegan’s nonsense.
A pillar of support in Keegan's orbit—just rigid enough to hold things together, just flexible enough not to snap when everything goes sideways.
🦾 Arianna Nunez
Sharp, composed, rising star. Trusted third point in the Keegan–Lavin triangle of justice.
She adds clarity and modern perspective. Equally at ease dissecting a crime scene or cutting through Keegan’s defensive snark. Someone’s gotta keep the grown-ups from imploding.
