Post 6

I had no other option but to rush my mother off the phone. I felt the creep of thoughts that could only drive me insane, moving toward my conscious, threatening to engulf me in a storm of paradoxes and ramifications that could only drown me. The temptation of thinking I had some higher power also sat in the background, and I knew the dangers of that. Any time in my life where I have thought I could do nothing but succeed, I always failed. Being sure of myself was the only sure way to taste defeat.

Still, I must admit the feeling was alluring. Part of me wanted to hone this seeming ability of mine, see if I could somehow predict things, get a glimpse at the future before it happened. That's what I was experiencing, I thought, a glimpse at the future. I didn't really have an ability to understand what was happening. The only connection I could make was when Rich confirmed I'd gone back in time. Everything seemed to have started right then.

Of course, I could have been wrong about that. Maybe there were signs before. Maybe these were just two striking coincidences, the whiskey bottle and the discussion about my aunt. Perhaps all of us, at one time or another in our lives, has the ability to lock onto someone else's brainwaves and pick something up. I don't know. These feelings didn't come with an instruction manual. Not much in life does.

I decided I would try and test this whole thing out. I thought maybe I could prove my way out of this. Foolish, I know, but I was reaching, hoping for some sort of clue as to why my brain and my body felt at odds. I doped there were answers somewhere. For starters, I'd have to go it alone, afraid that any mention of this to someone else would do more than raise some eyebrows.
