| Homicide
Detective John Keegan has seen it all, or at least he
thinks so. From high-profile cases, to murderous
wives out for revenge, Keegan is certain his job holds
nothing new. Until he is forced to do something
every cop fears but no one talks about: Killing someone
in the line of duty.
The academy
prepared him for everything. His superiors led him
each step of the way. Now, he is alone.
An apparent
vigilante is running through the streets of New York City,
intent on ending the lives of hardened criminals; drug
dealers, rapists, and other upstanding members of society.
Keegan gets assigned to the case, along with his sometime
partner, Rick Calhill, who is still dealing with a tragedy
no man should have to suffer. The case takes many
twists and turns, with several suspects seemingly drawing
attention to themselves. Who is responsible?
Unfortunately for John Keegan, he will be the only one
to figure it out.
Before that
happens, Keegan is forced to deal with death on several
different levels; people close to him, the people he has
built his life around, will be affected in ways he cannot
even imagine. Keegan's feeling of safety is taken
from him when the person he is closest to dies suddenly.
Feeling alone and out of control, he heads for the final
confrontation with both the vigilante, and the man he
sees in the mirror each morning.
Death Knell
is not only a murder mystery, not only a crime novel.
It is the story of how one man must come to terms with
the meaning of his own existence, then realize how little
value that really has.
